How To…

Survive Feeling Weird and Sad Every Single Day From 3pm-6pm

It’s that time of year again! No, not Mariah Carey Season. The season where I feel weird and sad every single day from the hours of 3pm to 6pm. Yes, I know I’m not the only one that experiences this, but I happen to be a certified expert at surviving them.

So, here is a list of the tips and tricks I follow to make it through that daily window of darkness and despair.

1. Know that this feeling will never pass.

It’s important to remember that how you feel in this 3-hour window will in fact dictate how you feel for the rest of your life. Yes, the feeling has passed every day before this at 6:01pm, but today is different. You’re in this weirdness for life!

There’s that famous quote “this too shall pass,” but please keep in mind that it applies to every single situation EXCEPT this one.

2. Believe everything you think about yourself.

If you’re unemployed and think you’ll never find a job again: yeah, you probably won’t! Hating that haircut you got? Somehow your hair will stop growing, and you’ll be stuck at this length forever. Not sure if you’re worth loving? You definitely are not!

3. Look up your exes.

Check their socials to see how well they’re doing without you. Remind yourself that you’ll never find anyone to love you (confirming the above) and will be single and alone until the end of your days.

4. Look up your friends!

Watch their instagram stories from today. Realize how much fun they have without you. It’s like they don’t even care that you’re feeling weird. Vow to cut them out of your life. Decide to never speak to them again. Watch their IG stories again to really dig into that pain.

5. Decide to sell all of your things to run away and join the circus.

Sure, you may not have any talents. And ok, you are also a full adult so threatening to run away and join the circus doesn’t quite have the same ring to it, but…

Wait a minute. Can that be right? Yeah I guess it is. It’s already time for the final step:

6. Check the time and see that it’s 6:01pm.

Realize you actually feel kind of normal again? Ha, it got kind of crazy back there, huh? Who was that person freaking out about everything? Embarrassing, but luckily you were alone for all of it, so no one has to know about your slight overreaction to the daily setting of the sun.

7. Live your life as normal until tomorrow at 3pm when it all begins again.
